Banana pudding is generally a custard dessert, made with instant banana pudding mix, milk, vanilla wafers, and bananas. Many home cooks like to layer the ingredients in Mason jars instead of the traditional casserole dish, for easy transport. Desserts in a jar, kids love that.
Some people like to make the pudding from scratch, which we will do in another post. But like many busy moms out there, I use the instant banana pudding mix whenever I have to come up with a fancy summer treat in a hurry. Lynard loves banana pudding, instant or homemade. It is a fast and easy recipe, perfect to make it for kids’ birthday. Add some whipped cream on top, delicious and good looking.
Simply Banana Pudding
Ingredients and Instructions
2 (3.4-oz) packages Jell-O instant vanilla pudding
3 1/4 cups regular cold milk (or lactose free)
Vanilla wafer cookies
Large ripe bananas, sliced into thin pieces
Store-bought whipped cream, for serving
In a large bowl, add the pudding mix and milk. Whisk together for 2 minutes. Let the mixture rest for 5 minutes, and then stir again.
To put it together: Layer a few cookies at the bottom of the mason jars (or any clear bowls) and then add the pudding and the sliced bananas. Repeat this until each mason jar is almost full. Top each mason jar with the whipped cream, inserted with a wafer cookie.
